On February 8, 2025, the Pendennis Building in Downtown Edmonton transforms into a vibrant space of history, identity, and empowerment. This year’s theme, “Roots in the Diaspora,” is an invitation to honour the past, celebrate the present, and envision a future rooted in resilience and pride.

Program Schedule
Guests arrive and enjoy live music while they mix and mingle. There will be time for photography and community engagement.
The MC, “Thandiwe Konguavi” kicks off the event with an introduction to the theme “Roots in the Diaspora,” and the evening’s program.
Mirriam shares her story and the inspiration behind producing the documentary.
The film “Bridges Across Time – Alberta’s Black History Month Unveiled” plays, revealing a deep dive into the significance of Black History Month in Alberta from a multidimensional, multicultural, and multigenerational perspective.
This includes live performances such as music, dance, or comedy to celebrate Black culture.
Our keynote speaker, Ajibola, City Counsellor, takes the stage to discuss her newly written children’s book focused on identity and self-worth, emphasizing empowerment and representation.
Several performers take the stage with performances centered around themes of identity, empowerment, and the experiences of Black women.
We round up the event by reflecting on the themes discussed during the evening.
Members network with one another as we provide information on future involvement with “When African Women Talk.”
The event ends with a vote of thanks to the participants, performers, sponsors, and attendees for their support.
