Join us as we honour Canadian Women of African Descent in a grand celebration for Black History Month. Together, we’ll celebrate achievements and inspire future generations.“Celebrating Our Roots – Black History Month 2025” is a vibrant and engaging evening event organized by When African Women Talk. Held at the Pendennis Building in Downtown Edmonton, this event aims to celebrate the rich history, culture, and contributions of the Black community in Alberta. Highlighting the theme “Roots in the Diaspora,” the evening will be a celebration of identity, empowerment, and community through a mix of multimedia presentations, live performances, and thought-provoking discussions.
Program Highlights:
- Live Music and Networking (6:00 PM – 6:30 PM):
- A welcoming session with live music to encourage guest interaction and networking.
- Welcome Remarks and Introduction (6:30 PM – 6:40 PM):
- Welcome by MC Thandiwe Konguavi, providing an overview of the event’s theme and goals.
- Mirriam Chimanga’s Presentation (6:40 PM – 7:00 PM):
- Mirriam will share her story and the inspiration behind her documentary.
- Documentary Screening (7:00 PM – 7:40 PM):
- Showing “Bridges Across Time – Alberta’s Black History Month Unveiled.”
- Entertainment Segment (7:40 PM – 8:00 PM):
- Lively performances celebrating Black culture through music and dance.

- Keynote by Ajibola Abitoye, focuses on themes of identity and self-worth through her children’s book.
